i - <br /> • ORDINANCE NO. 4/6 / C/ <br /> AN ORDINANCE amending Section 4+.04 .050 and Section <br /> . 4.04+.090, Everett City Code, providing for the levying and col- <br /> :; lection of occupation taxes on certain utility operations, and <br /> declaring an emergency to exist . <br /> WHEREAS, the West Coast Telephone Company has refused to <br /> renew its franchise with the City of Everett . <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1: That Section 4 .04 .050, Everett City Code, <br /> is hereby amended to read as follows: • <br /> `4.04.050 Occupations subject to tax--Amount-- <br /> , Exception. <br /> There are hereby levied and shall be collected annual <br /> license fees or occupation taxes against the persons on account <br /> of the business activities, and in the amounts to be determined • <br /> by the application of the rates against gross income, as follows : <br /> • (a) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on a <br /> telegraph business, a fee or tax equal to 2 per cent (2%) of the <br /> total gross income from such business in the City during the fiscal <br /> year next preceding the tax year for which the license is required; <br /> (b) Upon every person engaged in or carrying on a <br /> telephone business, a fee or tax equal to 4 per cent (4o) of the <br /> total gross income, excluding long distance toll service, from <br /> such business in the City during the current calendar year for • <br /> which the license is required, which shall be paid monthly on <br /> or before the 20th day of the following month. '• <br /> • <br /> Section 2: That Section 4.0 .090, Everett City Code, <br /> is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> 4.04.090 - Monthly payment of tax--Required. In all <br /> ` cases the license fee or tax shall be paid in monthly install- <br /> ments during the life of the license, each of such installments <br /> to be paid on or before the 20th day of each month.
