186 <br /> May 18,1983 <br /> The regular meeting of the Everett City Council was mall.to order <br /> t at 800 a.m.,May 18,1983,in the Council Chambers of the Everett <br /> ' City Hall,President Pope presiding. Upon roll call it was found <br /> that all Councilnmn imaxe in attendance,except Councilman Overstreet, <br /> who waa excused. Mayor Moore was also excused. <br /> Minutes of the meeting held May 11,1983,were approved as printed. <br /> CONSULTANT LELECTION <br /> :resident Pope,on the Mayor's absence,announced that the consultant <br /> election committee had met and interviewed the top 3 candidates for <br /> I the preliminary engineering study for 60th St.S.W. The committee is <br /> recommending that the firm of HNTB,of Bellevue,be approved by Council <br /> perform this study. <br /> Moved by Councilman Stephenson,seconded by Councilman Gipson,to <br /> approve the selection of FINIS,of Bellevue,to perform the preliminary <br /> engineering study for the 60th Street S.W.extension imtween Seaway <br /> Boulevard and Glenwood Averme. <br />:r <br />, , Roll was called with all Councilmen voting yes,except Councilman <br /> Overstreet,who was excueed. <br /> Motion Carried <br /> COUNCILMEN'S COMMENTS <br /> •, Councilman Gipson reported he had recently represented the City at a <br /> ,, meeting at Providence Hospital. He then introduced Mary Pears,Public <br /> Affairs Director of the hospital,who presented plaques to Transit, <br /> Eire and Police Departments,and aleo to Everett Ambulance for their <br /> outstanding efforts at the time of the General Hospital fire. <br /> WPPSS RESOLUTION <br /> „ Councilman Stephenson urged everyone in attendance to write to their <br /> R 1 legislators to tell them they are not in favor of a property tax levy <br /> to finance WPPSS. <br /> as follows. <br /> A RESOLUTION requesting the Washington State <br /> Legislature to pass a.law prohibiting the <br />.r 1,, '1 Washington Public Power Supply System from <br /> levying property taxes. <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Everett,Snohomish County,the Everett <br /> School District,end other public agencies are eubstantially dependerG <br /> on funding essential public services.rough the property tax;and <br /> WHEREAS,said public agencies ars presently struggling to recover <br /> from the reduction of their tax base due to the loss of hhe inventory <br /> tax;and <br />
