Upon roll call it was found <br /> that Mayor Moore and all councilmembers were present. <br /> f Minutes of the meeting held May 4, 1988 were approved as printed <br /> with President Siva abstaining. <br /> CONSULTANT SELECTION <br /> k Moved by Councilmember Pope, seconded by Councilmember Longue to <br /> authorize the Mayor to begin negotiations with Gray and Osborne for <br /> consulting engineering services for the Southend Interceptor. <br /> 0 I <br /> Roll was called with all counellmembers voting yes. <br /> Mott.carried. <br /> tCOUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> ir Co...ember Pope stated he had toured the Lowell neighborhood e. <br /> he was very impressed with the new street improvements the City has <br /> been working on in the neighborhood. Mayor Moore stated that more <br /> improvements in the Lowell neighborhood are being considered for the <br /> ' <br /> r <br /> , the 1989 budget. <br /> HOTEL MOTEL TAX FUNDING <br /> Councilmember Gipson stated he had attended a meeting with students <br /> and teachers from Everett High School regarding a trip 21 students <br /> will be taking to Germany. They ere <br /> assist in promoting tourism asking for a$1,000 donation to <br /> to their GerMan counterparts. <br /> Moved by Councilmember Pope, seconded by Councilmemb. Gipson to <br /> authorize an agreement with Everett High School regarding the <br /> promotion of the City and provide funding of$1,000 from Hotel Motel <br /> Tax Fund 138. <br /> Mayor Moore stated that he felt this was a worthy program but that <br /> Council should consider that many different groups on good will or <br /> sport missions travel to other countries and are lways in need of <br /> 1 funding. This action could encourage a flood aof requests for <br /> funding. <br /> Councilmember Overstreet stated this was a worthwhile project but <br /> that the Council had to draw the line somewhere on these types of <br /> funding requests. <br /> President Niva felt that approval woUld be Setting .Precedent oo <br /> funding practices. <br /> Councilmembor Stephenson stated that many groups promote Everett and <br /> the Council had chosen not to support financially from Hotel Motel <br /> Tax funds the Sister City delegation that visited Japan.
