ORDINANCE NO. 3024-07 <br /> An Ordinance authorizing City Clerk and codifiers of ordinances to make necessary <br /> corrections of scrivener's clerical errors <br /> Whereas, the City Clerk has explicit statutory authority to correct scrivener's errors in <br /> codifying ordinances, including correction of manifest spelling, clerical or typographical <br /> errors, additions or omissions; and <br /> Whereas, the authority of the City Clerk to correct scrivener's errors should be explicitly <br /> extended by the City Council to even those errors that may not become manifest until <br /> after codification; and <br /> Whereas, the City Clerk's correction of such errors in ordinances can avoid confusion <br /> and is consistent with the City Clerk's authority to correct scrivener's errors in the <br /> Charter and in codifying ordinances; and <br /> Whereas, the City Clerk's authority to correct scrivener's errors in ordinances even after <br /> they are codified is clarified and established in this Ordinance for general application to <br /> all ordinances; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE,THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1. The City Clerk and the codifiers of this Ordinance are authorized to make <br /> necessary corrections to any ordinance, before, during or following codification, <br /> including,but not limited to, the correction of scrivener's clerical errors, references, <br /> ordinance numbering, section/subsection numbering and any references thereto. <br /> 1 <br />
