ORDINANCE NO, 1687 An ordinance amending Section 8, Article II of the city charter of Everett, relating to vacancies in the city council of the city of Everett, and providing for the manner of filling such vac- ancies. THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1: That Section 8, Article II of the city charter of Everett be, and the same is hereby amended. That said section as amended shall read as follows: Section 8: VACANCIES: The office of any commissioner shall be deemed vacant in case of failure to qualify within two days after the beginning of the term for which he was elected, or by reason of his death, resignation, removal from office, removal from the city, continuous absence from the city for more than thirty days during his term of office without the consent of the council, conviction of a felony, or incompetency judicially declared. If a commissioner shall be absent from the city more than thirty days in any calendar year without the consent ,of the council , unless on business of the city, his salary shall be correspondingly diminished. A vacancy occurring otherwise than by recall, or by resignation after recall petition is filed, shall be filled by appointment, unless the unex- pired term be two years or longer. In that case it shall be filled by a special election, which shall be held within sixty days after such vacancy occurs.
