<br /> An ordinance relating to untrue, deceptive, and misleading
<br /> statements and advertisements, and providing a penalty for the
<br /> violation thereof, and declaring an emergency.
<br /> THE CITY OF IVi'RATT DOM ORDAIN:
<br /> Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm,
<br /> corporation or association, with intent to sell or in any wise
<br /> dispose of merchandise, securities, service, or anything offered by
<br /> such person, firm, corporation or association, directly or indirectly,
<br /> to the public for sale or distribution, or with intent to increase
<br /> the consumption thereof, or to induce the public in any manner to
<br /> enter into any obligation relating thereto , or to acquire title
<br /> thereto, or an interest therein; to make or publish any oral state-
<br /> ment, or to make , publish, disseminate, circulate, or place before
<br /> the public , or to cause, directly or indirectly to be made, published,
<br /> disseminated, circulated, or placed before the public in the city
<br /> of Aver,ett, in -a newspaper or other publication in the form of a books
<br /> notice, handbill, poster, bill, circular, panphlet, or letter, or
<br /> in any other way, an advertisement of any sort regarding merchandise,
<br /> securities , service, or anything so offered to the public , which
<br /> statement or advertisement contains any assumption, representation
<br /> or statement which is untrue, deceptive, or misleading.
<br /> Section 2: Any person, firm, corporation or association
<br /> violating any of the provisions of this ordinance, shall, upon
<br /> conviction, be punished by a fine not to exceed one hundred ($100)
<br /> dollars , or be imprisoned for not to exceed thirty (30) days, or by
<br /> both such fine and imprisonment.
<br /> Section 3: An emergency is declared to exist, and this
<br /> ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication.
