ORDINANCE, NO. ` P <br /> An ordinance for the protection of life and limb, and <br /> relating to excavations in, under, or near, obstructions to , and <br /> use of the streets , alleys , sidewalks and public places in the city <br /> of . verett, repealing Ordinances numbers 23 and 714, prescribing <br /> punishment for violations thereof, and declaring an emergency. <br /> THA CITY OF AVI RATT DOJ S ORDAIN: " <br /> TRAP DOORS AND OPANINGS. <br /> Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to leave <br /> open and unprotected any cellar or trap door, vault, grating, or <br /> other sidewalk opening, or to permit or suffer any sidewalk or pass- <br /> ageway which it is his duty to keep in repair, to fall into disrepair <br /> or become broken, uneven or in a condition dangerous to persons using <br /> the same. <br /> .uXCAVAT IONS. <br /> Section 2: No parson shall unlawfully disturb any sidewalk, <br /> or remove or injure any planking or paving on any street, alley or <br /> sidewalk in said city, or dig into or under, or tear up any of the <br /> streets , alleys , sidewalks or public places in said city. <br /> Section 3: All excavations, obstructions or unsafe con- <br /> ditions in or upon any street, alley, sidewalk, o.r public place in <br /> said city shall be protected and guarded by sufficient barriers at <br /> all times and by lights at night so as to warn passers by of such <br /> obstruction or dangerous place; and all such excavations , obstruc- <br /> tions , and unsafe conditions shall be properly filled up, and the <br /> street, alley, sidewalk, or public place restored to its former con- <br /> dition upon the completion of the purpose for which same was torn up, <br /> obstructed, or rendered unsafe; and it shall be the duty of the person <br /> creating such excavation, obstruction, or unsafe condition, or causing <br /> the same to be created, to do and perform all the acts herein re- <br /> quired to be done concerning the same, and it shall be the duty of <br />
