RESOLUTION NO. S6g9 , <br /> A RESOLUTION establishing "Freedom Fare Sundays" from401111/11V/1"." <br /> Sunday November 27, 2005 through Sunday January 1, 2006. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett has operated its own municipal transit system <br /> (Everett Transit) since 1968, continuing a legacy of transit services in the City for <br /> 112 years; and <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of Everett reaffirmed their preference for a municipally <br /> operated transit system by supporting Proposition 1 in September 2004; and <br /> WHEREAS, revenue for Everett Transit is primarily sourced from retail sales tax <br /> collected in the City of Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett recognizes that many people rely on public <br /> transportation during the holiday season for access to work, shopping, family <br /> and friends; and <br /> WHEREAS, many Everett Transit customers are also customers and employees <br /> of retail establishments throughout the city; and <br /> WHEREAS, Sundays after the Thanksgiving Holiday and into the first week of <br /> the New Year are among the busiest shopping days of the year; and <br /> WHEREAS, Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on a Sunday this holiday <br /> season; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett Transit will operate its regular Sunday level of service on <br /> Christmas Day and New Years Day; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett and Everett Transit want to thank the citizens <br /> and businesses of Everett for their continued support and to encourage transit <br /> use to help mitigate traffic congestion during the busy holiday season; <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of Everett: <br /> Effective, Sunday November 27, 2005 and each Sunday thereafter through <br /> Sunday January 1, 2006, all service on Everett Transit shall be free. <br /> �l,Gu.... iL <br /> Councilperson Introducing the Resolution <br /> PASSED and APPROVED this /G day of A/0 0' 6X, 2005. <br /> .t7/7---t-e--0....:. /C-c...G.-e,<-- <br /> Council President <br />
