RESOLUTION NO. S6g9 , A RESOLUTION establishing "Freedom Fare Sundays" from401111/11V/1"." Sunday November 27, 2005 through Sunday January 1, 2006. WHEREAS, the City of Everett has operated its own municipal transit system (Everett Transit) since 1968, continuing a legacy of transit services in the City for 112 years; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Everett reaffirmed their preference for a municipally operated transit system by supporting Proposition 1 in September 2004; and WHEREAS, revenue for Everett Transit is primarily sourced from retail sales tax collected in the City of Everett; and WHEREAS, the City of Everett recognizes that many people rely on public transportation during the holiday season for access to work, shopping, family and friends; and WHEREAS, many Everett Transit customers are also customers and employees of retail establishments throughout the city; and WHEREAS, Sundays after the Thanksgiving Holiday and into the first week of the New Year are among the busiest shopping days of the year; and WHEREAS, Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on a Sunday this holiday season; and WHEREAS, Everett Transit will operate its regular Sunday level of service on Christmas Day and New Years Day; and WHEREAS, the City of Everett and Everett Transit want to thank the citizens and businesses of Everett for their continued support and to encourage transit use to help mitigate traffic congestion during the busy holiday season; NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of Everett: Effective, Sunday November 27, 2005 and each Sunday thereafter through Sunday January 1, 2006, all service on Everett Transit shall be free. �l,Gu.... iL Councilperson Introducing the Resolution PASSED and APPROVED this /G day of A/0 0' 6X, 2005. .t7/7---t-e--0....:. /C-c...G.-e,<-- Council President
