011%/--a <br /> 740/FETT <br /> Resolution No. 45 2 5 <br /> A Resolution in Support of Brownfields Grant for Simpson Property <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett has acquired property along the Snohomish River known as <br /> the Simpson property and the land fill property; and <br /> WHEREAS, these properties are considered vital to the redevelopment of the city, its river <br /> front, waterfront, the new multimodal center transportation developments under the Regional <br /> Transit Authority, and links to the downtown; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett has expended considerable funds in the acquisition and <br /> remediation of these sites; and <br /> WHEREAS, these properties were formerly industrial sites and a land fill, where contamination <br /> or the perception of contamination and activities that existed on the sites have made the <br /> redevelopment and reuse of the property more difficult; and <br /> WHEREAS, these properties qualify as "brownfields" by the Environmental Protection Agency <br /> (EPA) for the purpose of the Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative, making funds <br /> available for pilot projects to test clean up and redevelopment planning models; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett will continue to invest in the redevelopment of these properties <br /> and the river front area and will be undertaking further site planning related to the <br /> redevelopment of these properties; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Everett to authorize the <br /> Department of Planning and Community Development to submit an application for a pilot grant <br /> under the Brownfields Redevelopment Initiative. <br /> FURTHER, the City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor or his designee to enter into <br /> agreements with EPA as appropriate to implement the brownfields grant program. <br /> Councilmember Introducing Resolution <br /> Passed and approved this /0 day of December, 1997. <br /> Council President <br />
