IP <br /> lay I <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4203 <br /> A resolution expressing support for the nomination and election of Mayor Ed <br /> Hansen to the Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors. <br /> WHEREAS,the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is an organization that <br /> provides a critical service to cities throughout our state by providing information, <br /> training, workshops, and lobbying support in the State Legislature; and <br /> WHEREAS,the AWC is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors which provides <br /> policy direction, budget guidance, and other assistance to the organization; and <br /> WHEREAS,the AWC is now seeking qualified nominees to consider for service on its <br /> Board of Directors; and <br /> WHEREAS, Everett Mayor Ed Hansen, with the backing and support of the Everett City <br /> Council, has submitted an application for the District 8 seat on the Board; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen boasts expertise in a wide variety of areas by virtue of his <br /> background as an attorney, former aide to the late U.S. Senator Henry M. "Scoop" <br /> Jackson, Board Chairman and 18-year director of a successful bank, and Chairman and <br /> 10-year board member of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council; and <br /> WHEREAS,Mayor Hansen already has shown his ability to provide solid policy <br /> guidance for the City of Everett, stabilizing the City budget, helping the City to achieve <br /> $1 million in health care savings, and performing other key roles; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mayor Hansen has indicated that he would be willing to attend the daylong <br /> meetings and workshops required of a Board member and already has working <br /> relationships with area state legislators, as encouraged by the AWC. <br /> NOW THEREFORE,the City Council of the City of Everett hereby resolves: <br /> 1. That it supports Mayor Hansen's election to an AWC District 8 seat representing <br /> Everett, Snohomish County, and other areas of Northwest Washington. <br /> 2. That it believes Mayor Hansen is ideally suited to the Board position described above <br />
