Ordinance No. 2880-05 <br />An Ordinance relating to For -Hire Vehicles, <br />Amending Sections 30, 19, 40 and 13 of <br />Ordinance No. 2297-98 (Chapter 5.68 EMC). <br />Whereas, the Everett City Council finds that the cost for gasoline fluctuates and <br />has increased sharply in the recent past; and <br />Whereas, the Everett City Council has been advised that increased gasoline cost <br />increases costs for those engaged in the business of operating taxicabs in the City; and <br />Whereas, the Everett City Council finds that adopting a rate structure that will <br />update the per mile rate for taxicabs each year will help promote safe, reliable and <br />economically viable and stable taxicab transportation service; and <br />Whereas, the Everett City Council also finds that it is appropriate to make other <br />changes to the City's taxicab regulations, including increasing the current drop charge <br />and current wait charge, updating driver qualifications, allowing for rooftop placard <br />advertising and directing that the City's violations hearing examiner preside over <br />licensing hearings; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br />Section l: Section 30 of Ordinance No. 2297-98, as amended by Section 1 of <br />Ordinance No. 2306-98 and Section 1 of Ordinance No. 2773-04 (EMC <br />5.68.290), which reads as follows: <br />Rates. <br />A. Except for special or contract rates and rates for special service vehicles, as provided <br />for in this chapter, it shall be unlawful for anyone operating a taxicab licensed by the <br />City to charge, demand or receive any greater or lesser rate than the following: <br />1. Taxicab. <br />a. To be determined by the taximeter: <br />Upon activation of the taximeter, one dollar and eighty cents; <br />ii. For each succeeding one mile, one dollar and eighty cents; twenty <br />cents for each one -ninth mile or fraction thereof, <br />
