1!:!!!! :i <br /> ,44E!/E?ETT <br /> RESOLUTION # 3715 <br /> A Resolution in support of criminal justice assistance funding. <br /> WHEREAS, The Washington State Legislature recognized the need for additional funding <br /> support for local criminal justice agencies when they enacted the City/County Criminal Justice <br /> Assistance Act; and <br /> WHEREAS, The cities and towns have used the recently provided criminal justice assistance <br /> funds to improve the criminal justice system at the local level; and <br /> WHEREAS, The criminal justice system continues to be adversely impacted by crime, drugs, <br /> and gangs; and <br /> WHEREAS, All cities are not the same and urban cities have vastly different needs and <br /> resources than lesser populated cities and towns yet the citizenry expectations may be the <br /> same; and <br /> WHEREAS, Many municipalities have exhausted their fiscal capacities and do not have <br /> adequate resources to meet the challenges of the increasing demand for criminal justice <br /> services; and <br /> WHEREAS, the provision of the additional criminal justice assistance funds sunset in 1993; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That Mayor Pete Kinch and the Everett City <br /> Council request that the Legislature continue the criminal justice assistance funding, including <br /> the authority for all counties to impose a one-tenth of one percent increased sales tax for <br /> criminal justice purposes, including domestic violence community advocates who form a <br /> critical piece of an effective coordinated response to this epidemic of violence in our cities, <br /> and urge the Legislature to remove the non-supplanting language from current law; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Mayor Pete Kinch and the Everett City Council request <br /> that the Legislature enact legislation that gives cities and towns additional local option funding <br /> sources for local criminal justice programs. <br /> Signed this 23rd day of December ; 1992 <br /> /> V'a <br /> Mayor Pete Kitnch Council President Carl Gipson <br /> _ <br /> Councilpgrson Introducing Resolution <br /> �✓ <br /> • I . • <br /> 4, _ /� <br />
