C/TrATTORNEY'S
OFFICE
Peter Sikov Mr. Dean Summers Mr. John Doerschuk
PO Box 22268 11720 19th Avenue NE 1804 Hewitt
Seattle, WA 98122 Seattle, WA 98125-5124 Everett, WA 98201
March 20, 2006
Re: 2818 Wetmore, Everett, WA
Dear Sirs:
It is my understanding that the use of the property at 2818 Wetmore is the
subject of inquiries involving a number of different city departments. I have
been asked to provide a general status report regarding the property.
To operate a business in Everett you must obtain a business license, the
proposed business must be a legal use of the properly as it is zoned, and the
building in which the business is to operate must meet a number of different
code requirements. These requirements sometimes diverge, so that it is possible
to obtain a business license, but not possible to operate a business because of
fire or building code restrictions. I will first address the legal uses of the
building, and then code issues as they relate to the proposed uses. Please
understand that this is a general status report, and the various fire, building and
zoning officers will have detailed information regarding the codes they are tasked
to enforce.
Please also be aware that the Everett City Council recently approved Interim
Ordinance 2899-06 which impacts the downtown area, and which will be
described below.
The building at 2818 Wetmore is zoned B-3. Mr. Summers presently has a
business license, issued in June 2005, for The House Antique and Collectables
Trade Show. According to the business license application, this is a retail and
wholesale operation in which antiques and collectables would be sold, and
business foreclosure and storage auctions would take place. Mr. Summers
planned a monthly trade show at the premise.
On February 27, 2006, Mr. Summers filed for an amended business license
seeking to do hall rentals for wedding, religious and music events, and antique
and trade shows. He also described a plan to sublease parts of the building to a
coffee shop and restaurant and to make the building a "local event center."
CITY OF EVERETT• 2930 Wetmore Ave. • Everett, WA 98201 • (425) 257-8700 • Fax (425) 257-8693
