The purpose of our study was to explore the subsurface soil
conditions at the property in order to provide recommendations for site
preparation, foundetion design end construction for this project. The scope
of our study included test ptts, l.aboratory tests, and geotechnical
engineering analyses. This report presen[s the findings and the results of
our studies, alo,ig wir.li supporting field and laboratory test data.
SUrAtARY OF FINDINGS
Our study indicates that the proposed building has been Eil:ed in the past by
up to 14 feet or more of silty send fill containing some debris which is
presently in a loose condition. Underlying the fills is an old topsoil/fill
horizon with a thickness ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 feet. Native soils
underlying the fill and old [opsoil consist of relatively firm; clean to
silty sands to the depths explored.
The loose fill soils underlying [he building area will not provide adequate
support for conven[ional spread foundations for the proposed building. In
addition, an existing rockery nlong the north and east sides of the site may
be subjected to excessive pressures by shallow building foundations. To
allow for these existing conditions the following foundation cri.teria are
considered appropriate.
1. Foundations for the building should be extended down to a level
below that of the base of the rockery.
2. The existtng fills should be removed to a minimum dep[h of two feet
beloa foundtion bottoms and replaced by structurel fills. In slab
and pavement arees, the depth of overexcavation should be at least
12 inches.
1301 i N.E.
