I <br /> 1 8-02.3(5)C Planting Area Preparation <br /> 2 The Contractor shall prepare planting areas as follows: <br /> 3 <br /> 4 1. Prepare planting area to a weed free and bare condition in accordance <br /> 5 with Section 8-02.3(3)B. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 2. Decompact soil to a depth of 18 inches where construction activities have <br /> 8 taken place or where native soils are compacted. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 3. Return soil to uniform grade even with surrounding areas, leaving no <br /> 11 holes or mounds over 3 inches in depth or height. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 4. Remove excess material, stumps, wood or rocks over 3 inches in <br /> 14 diameter and remove from site. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 5. Apply compost or other amendments as indicated in the plans and in <br /> 17 accordance with Section 8-02.3(6). <br /> 18 <br /> 19 6. Cultivate amendments to a depth of 12 inches to provide a reasonably <br /> 20 firm but friable planting area. Do not till any slopes 3(H) to 1(V) or <br /> 21 steeper. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 7. Return soil to a uniform finished grade, 1 inch, or the specified depth of <br /> 24 mulch plus 1 inch, below walks, curbs, junction and valve boxes, catch <br /> 25 basins, and driveways, unless otherwise specified. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 8. Begin planting and mulching the area within two days of final preparation. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 8-02.3(6) Soil Amendments <br /> 30 The Contractor shall place soil amendments of the type, quality, and quantities <br /> 31 specified where shown in the Plans or as specified in the Special Provisions. Areas <br /> 32 receiving soil amendments shall be bare soil or vegetation free prior to application. All <br /> 33 soil amendments shall be installed as shown in the Plans within 30 calendar days after <br /> 34 delivery to the project site. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 8-02.3(6)A Compost <br /> II <br /> 37 Compost used for soil amendments shall be Fine Compost unless otherwise <br /> 38 designated in the Plans. When compost blanket is used for temporary erosion <br /> 39 control, the compost blanket may be incorporated into the soil immediately prior to <br /> 40 planting when used as compost soil amendment. The area shall be prepared in <br /> 41 accordance with Section 8-02.3(5) prior to placing compost. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 8-02.3(6)B Fertilizers <br /> 44 The Contractor shall apply fertilizer in the form, mixture, and rate specified in the <br /> 45 Special Provisions or as directed by the Engineer. Application procedures shall be <br /> 46 in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations unless otherwise <br /> 47 specified in the Special Provisions. <br /> 48 <br /> 49 The Contractor shall submit a guaranteed fertilizer analysis label for the selected <br /> 50 product a minimum of one week prior to application for acceptance.
