I <br /> I1 only for the replacement plants with no mark-up and the Contractor will be responsible <br /> 2 for the labor to install the replacement plants. Other weed control within the project <br /> I 3 limits but outside of planting, lawn, or seeding areas shall be as specified in Section 8- <br /> 4 02.3(3)C. <br /> 5 <br /> I 6 During the first year of plant establishment, the Contractor shall meet monthly or at an <br /> 7 agreed upon schedule with the Engineer for the purpose of joint inspection of the <br /> 8 planting material. The Contractor shall correct all unsatisfactory conditions identified <br /> 9 by the Engineer within a 10-day period immediately following the inspection. If plant <br /> I 10 replacement is required, the Contractor shall, within the 10-day period, submit a plan <br /> 11 and schedule for the plant procurement and replacement to occur during the planting <br /> 12 period as designated in Section 8-02.3(8). At the end of the plant establishment period, <br /> I 13 plants that do not show normal growth shall be replaced and all staking and guying <br /> 14 that remain on the project shall be removed unless otherwise allowed by the Engineer. <br /> 15 <br /> I 16 All automatic irrigation systems shall be operated fully automatic during the plant <br /> 17 establishment period and until final acceptance of the Contract. Payment for water <br /> 18 used to water in plants, or hand watering of plant material or lawn areas unless <br /> 19 otherwise specified, is the responsibility of the Contractor during the first-year plant <br /> 20 establishment period. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Subsequent year plant establishment periods shall begin immediately at the <br /> I23 completion of the preceding year's plant establishment period. Each subsequent plant <br /> 24 establishment period shall be one full calendar year in duration. <br /> 25 <br /> I 26 During the plant establishment period(s) after the first year plant establishment, the <br /> 27 Work necessary for the continued healthy and vigorous growth of all plants material <br /> 28 shall be performed as directed by the Engineer. <br /> 29 <br /> I30 Payment for water used to water plants during the subsequent year(s) of plant <br /> 31 establishment will be paid under the plant establishment item. <br /> 32 <br /> I 33 8-02.3(14) Plant Replacement <br /> 34 The Contractor shall be responsible for growing or arrange to provide sufficient plants <br /> 35 for replacement of all plant material rejected through first-year plant establishment. All <br /> I 36 replacement plant material shall be inspected and accepted by the Engineer prior to <br /> 37 installation. All rejected plant material shall be replaced with acceptable plants meeting <br /> 38 the specifications and installed according to the requirements of this Section at dates <br /> 39 allowed by the Engineer. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 All replacement plants shall be of the same species as the plants they replace and <br /> 42 meet the requirements of Section 9-14.8 unless otherwise allowed by the Engineer. <br /> I 43 Plants may vary in size reflecting one season of growth should the Contractor elect to <br /> 44 hold plant material under nursery conditions for an additional year to serve as <br /> 45 replacement plants. Replacement plant material larger than specified in the Plans shall <br /> I 46 meet the applicable section requirements of the ASNS for container class, ball size, <br /> 47 spread, and branching characteristics. <br /> 48 <br /> 49 8-02.3(15) Bioengineering <br /> I50 Bioengineering consists of using plant materials for the purpose of streambank or <br /> 51 earthen slope construction and surface stabilization.
