I <br /> 1 1 <br /> 2 8-02.3(4) Topsoil <br /> 3 Topsoil shall not be worked or placed when the ground or topsoil is frozen, or <br /> 4 excessively wet. <br /> 5 <br /> 6 The Contractor shall protect topsoil stockpiled for project use to prevent erosion and <br /> 7 weed growth. Weed growth on topsoil stockpile sites shall be immediately eliminated in <br /> 8 accordance with the accepted Weed and Pest Control Plan and Section 8-02.3(3)C. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 The subsoil where topsoil is to be placed shall be tilled to a depth of 1 foot or as <br /> 11 specified in the Special Provisions or the Plans. Topsoil of the type specified shall be <br /> 12 evenly spread over the specified areas to the depth shown in the Plans or as otherwise <br /> 13 ordered by the Engineer. Topsoil depths greater than 6 inches shall be placed in lifts no <br /> 14 more than 6 inches in depth. The first lift of topsoil shall be incorporated with sub-soil to <br /> 15 a depth of 8 inches and subsequent lifts placed and lightly tamped between lifts. After <br /> 16 the topsoil has been spread, all large clods, hard lumps, and rocks 2 inches in <br /> 17 diameter and larger, and litter shall be raked up, removed, and disposed. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 8-02.3(4)A Topsoil Type A <br /> 20 Topsoil Type A shall be as specified in the Special Provisions. The Contractor shall <br /> 21 submit a certification by the supplier that the contents of the Topsoil meet the <br /> 22 requirements in the Special Provisions. <br /> 23 <br /> I <br /> 24 8-02.3(4)B Topsoil Type B <br /> 25 Topsoil Type B shall be naturally occurring topsoil taken from within the project <br /> 26 limits and shall meet the requirements of Section 9-14.1(2). Topsoil Type B shall <br /> 27 be taken from areas shown in the Plans to the designated depth and stockpiled at <br /> 28 locations that will not interfere with the construction of the project, and outside of <br /> 29 sensitive areas, as allowed by the Engineer. A minimum of two weeks prior to <br /> 30 excavation of Topsoil Type B, the Contractor shall pre-treat the vegetation on the <br /> 31 designated Topsoil Type B areas according to the Weed and Pest Control Plan. <br /> 32 Areas beyond the slope stakes shall be disturbed as little as possible in the above <br /> 33 operations and under no circumstances shall Topsoil Type B be stockpiled within <br /> I <br /> 34 10 feet of any existing tree or vegetation area designated to be saved and <br /> 35 protected. The Contractor shall protect topsoil stockpile from weed infestation. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 The Contractor shall set aside sufficient material to satisfy the needs of the <br /> 38 project. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Upon completion of topsoil placement, the Contractor shall dispose of remaining <br /> 41 stockpiled Topsoil Type B not required for use on the project at no additional <br /> 42 expense to the Contracting Agency in accordance with Section 2-03.3(7)C. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Should a shortage of Topsoil Type B occur, and the Contractor has wasted or <br /> 45 otherwise disposed of topsoil material, the Contractor shall furnish Topsoil Type A <br /> 46 or C at no additional expense to the Contracting Agency. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 8-02.3(4)C Topsoil Type C <br /> 49 Topsoil Type C shall be naturally occurring topsoil obtained from a source provided <br /> 50 by the Contractor outside of the Contracting Agency-owned Right of Way. Topsoil <br /> 51 Type C shall meet the requirements of Sections 8-02.3(4)B and 9-14.1(3).
