I 1 The subsoil where topsoil is to be placed shall be tilled to a depth of 1 foot or as 2 specified in the Special Provisions or the Plans. Topsoil of the type specified shall be 3 evenly spread over the specified areas to the depth shown in the Plans or as 4 otherwise ordered by the Engineer. Topsoil depths greater than 6 inches shall be I 5 placed in lifts no more than 6 inches in depth. The first lift of topsoil shall be 6 incorporated with sub-soil to a depth of 8 inches and subsequent lifts placed and 7 lightly tamped between lifts. After the topsoil has been spread, all large clods, hard 11 8 lumps, and rocks 2 inches in diameter and larger, and litter shall be raked up, 9 removed, and disposed. 10 11 8-02.3(4)A Topsoil Type A 12 Topsoil Type A shall be as specified in the Special Provisions. The Contractor 13 shall submit a certification by the supplier that the contents of the Topsoil meet 14 the requirements in the Special Provisions. I 15 16 8-02.3(4)B Topsoil Type B 17 Topsoil Type B shall be naturally occurring topsoil taken from within the project I 18 limits and shall meet the requirements of Section 9-14.1(2). Topsoil Type B shall 19 be taken from areas shown in the Plans to the designated depth and stockpiled 20 at locations that will not interfere with the construction of the project, and outside I 21 of sensitive areas, as allowed by the Engineer. A minimum of two weeks prior to 22 excavation of Topsoil Type B, the Contractor shall pre-treat the vegetation on the 23 designated Topsoil Type B areas according to the Weed and Pest Control Plan. 24 Areas beyond the slope stakes shall be disturbed as little as possible in the 111 25 above operations and under no circumstances shall Topsoil Type B be stockpiled 26 within 10 feet of any existing tree or vegetation area designated to be saved and 27 protected. The Contractor shall protect topsoil stockpile from weed infestation. I 28 29 The Contractor shall set aside sufficient material to satisfy the needs of the 30 project. 1 31 32 Upon completion of topsoil placement, the Contractor shall dispose of remaining 33 stockpiled Topsoil Type B not required for use on the project at no additional 34 expense to the Contracting Agency in accordance with Section 2-03.3(7)C. I 35 36 Should a shortage of Topsoil Type B occur, and the Contractor has wasted or 37 otherwise disposed of topsoil material, the Contractor shall furnish Topsoil Type I 38 A or C at no additional expense to the Contracting Agency. 39 40 8-02.3(4)C Topsoil Type C I 41 Topsoil Type C shall be naturally occurring topsoil obtained from a source 42 provided by the Contractor outside of the Contracting Agency-owned Right of 43 Way. Topsoil Type C shall meet the requirements of Sections 8-02.3(4)B and 9- 44 14.1(3). The Contractor shall not begin removal of Topsoil Type C from the I 45 proposed source until the material has been allowed for use by the Engineer. 46 47 8-02.3(5) Roadside Seeding, Lawn and Planting Area Preparation I 48 This Work includes preparing worked areas for the installation of all types of 49 permanent erosion control planting. Work shall be conducted so the flow lines in 50 drainage channels are maintained.
