I <br /> 1 The subsoil where topsoil is to be placed shall be tilled to a depth of 1 foot or as <br /> 2 specified in the Special Provisions or the Plans. Topsoil of the type specified shall be <br /> 3 evenly spread over the specified areas to the depth shown in the Plans or as <br /> 4 otherwise ordered by the Engineer. Topsoil depths greater than 6 inches shall be <br /> I 5 placed in lifts no more than 6 inches in depth. The first lift of topsoil shall be <br /> 6 incorporated with sub-soil to a depth of 8 inches and subsequent lifts placed and <br /> 7 lightly tamped between lifts. After the topsoil has been spread, all large clods, hard <br /> 11 8 lumps, and rocks 2 inches in diameter and larger, and litter shall be raked up, <br /> 9 removed, and disposed. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 8-02.3(4)A Topsoil Type A <br /> 12 Topsoil Type A shall be as specified in the Special Provisions. The Contractor <br /> 13 shall submit a certification by the supplier that the contents of the Topsoil meet <br /> 14 the requirements in the Special Provisions. <br /> I 15 <br /> 16 8-02.3(4)B Topsoil Type B <br /> 17 Topsoil Type B shall be naturally occurring topsoil taken from within the project <br /> I 18 limits and shall meet the requirements of Section 9-14.1(2). Topsoil Type B shall <br /> 19 be taken from areas shown in the Plans to the designated depth and stockpiled <br /> 20 at locations that will not interfere with the construction of the project, and outside <br /> I 21 of sensitive areas, as allowed by the Engineer. A minimum of two weeks prior to <br /> 22 excavation of Topsoil Type B, the Contractor shall pre-treat the vegetation on the <br /> 23 designated Topsoil Type B areas according to the Weed and Pest Control Plan. <br /> 24 Areas beyond the slope stakes shall be disturbed as little as possible in the <br /> 111 25 above operations and under no circumstances shall Topsoil Type B be stockpiled <br /> 26 within 10 feet of any existing tree or vegetation area designated to be saved and <br /> 27 protected. The Contractor shall protect topsoil stockpile from weed infestation. <br /> I 28 <br /> 29 The Contractor shall set aside sufficient material to satisfy the needs of the <br /> 30 project. <br /> 1 31 <br /> 32 Upon completion of topsoil placement, the Contractor shall dispose of remaining <br /> 33 stockpiled Topsoil Type B not required for use on the project at no additional <br /> 34 expense to the Contracting Agency in accordance with Section 2-03.3(7)C. <br /> I 35 <br /> 36 Should a shortage of Topsoil Type B occur, and the Contractor has wasted or <br /> 37 otherwise disposed of topsoil material, the Contractor shall furnish Topsoil Type <br /> I 38 A or C at no additional expense to the Contracting Agency. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 8-02.3(4)C Topsoil Type C <br /> I 41 Topsoil Type C shall be naturally occurring topsoil obtained from a source <br /> 42 provided by the Contractor outside of the Contracting Agency-owned Right of <br /> 43 Way. Topsoil Type C shall meet the requirements of Sections 8-02.3(4)B and 9- <br /> 44 14.1(3). The Contractor shall not begin removal of Topsoil Type C from the <br /> I 45 proposed source until the material has been allowed for use by the Engineer. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 8-02.3(5) Roadside Seeding, Lawn and Planting Area Preparation <br /> I 48 This Work includes preparing worked areas for the installation of all types of <br /> 49 permanent erosion control planting. Work shall be conducted so the flow lines in <br /> 50 drainage channels are maintained.
