I <br /> 1 composition. Paint shall not be mixed by means of air stream bubbling or boxing. Paint <br /> 2 shall be mixed in the original containers and mixing shall continue until all pigment or <br /> 3 metallic powder is in suspension. Care shall be taken to ensure that the solid material that <br /> 4 has settled to the bottom of the container is thoroughly dispersed. After mixing, the <br /> I 5 Contractor shall inspect the paint for uniformity and to ensure that no unmixed pigment or <br /> 6 lumps are present. <br /> 7 <br /> I 8 Catalysts, curing agents, hardeners, initiators, or dry metallic powders that are packaged <br /> 9 separately may be added to the base paint in accordance with the paint manufacturer's <br /> 10 written recommendations and only after the paint is thoroughly mixed to achieve a uniform <br /> 11 mixture with all particles wetted.The Contractor shall then add the proper volume of curing <br /> 12 agent to the correct volume of base and mix thoroughly. The mixture shall be used within <br /> 13 the pot life specified by the manufacturer. Unused portions shall be discarded at the end <br /> 14 of each work day. Accelerants are not permitted except as allowed by the Engineer. <br /> I 15 <br /> 16 The Contractor shall not add additional thinner at the application site except as allowed <br /> 17 by the Engineer. The amount and type of thinner, if allowed, shall conform to the <br /> I <br /> 18 <br /> 19 manufacturer's specifications. If recommended by the manufacturer and allowed by the <br /> Engineer, a measuring cup shall be used for the addition of thinner to any paint with <br /> 20 graduations in ounces. No un-measured addition of thinner to paint will be allowed. Any <br /> 21 paint found to be thinned by unacceptable methods will be rejected. <br /> I22 <br /> 23 When recommended by the manufacturer, the Contractor shall constantly agitate paint <br /> 24 during application by use of paint pots equipped with mechanical agitators. <br /> I 25 <br /> 26 The Contractor shall strain all paint after mixing to remove undesirable matter, but without <br /> 27 removing the pigment or metallic powder. <br /> I 28 <br /> 29 Paint shall be stored and mixed in a secure, contained location to eliminate the potential <br /> 30 for spills into State waters and onto the ground and highway surfaces. <br /> 1 31 <br /> 32 6-07.3(9)D Coating Thickness <br /> 33 This section is revised to read: <br /> 34 <br /> I 35 Dry film thickness shall be measured in accordance with SSPC Paint Application <br /> 36 Specification No. 2, Procedure for Determining Conformance to Dry Coating Thickness <br /> 37 Requirements. <br /> I 38 <br /> 39 The minimum dry film thickness of the primer coat shall not be less than 2.5 mils. <br /> 40 <br /> I 41 The minimum dry film thickness of each coat (combination of intermediate and <br /> 42 intermediate stripe, and top) shall be not less than 3.0 mils. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 The dry film thickness of each coat shall not be thicker than the paint manufacturer's <br /> I 45 recommended maximum thickness. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 The minimum wet film thickness of each coat shall be specified by the paint manufacturer <br /> I 48 to achieve the minimum dry film thickness. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 Film thickness, wet and dry, will be measured by gages conforming to Section 6-07.3(8)A. <br /> 51 <br /> ICITY OF EVERETT AMENDMENTS <br /> PACIFIC AVENUE TO INTERURBAN TRAIL BICYCLE SAFETY PROJECT 8/12/2019 <br /> 1 <br /> STATE FUND#HLP PB17(014); COE#PW3688 Page AM-47 <br />
