Ii Painting of ferry terminal Structures shall be in accordance with Section 6-07.3 as <br /> 2 supplemented below. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 This section is supplemented with the following new subsections: <br /> I 5 <br /> 6 6-07.3(12)A Painting New Steel Ferry Terminal Structures <br /> 7 Painting of new steel Structures shall be in accordance with Section 6-07.3(9) except that <br /> I <br /> 8 all coatings (primer, intermediate, intermediate stripe, and top) shall be applied in the shop <br /> 9 with the following exceptions: <br /> 10 <br /> Ii 1 1. Steel surfaces to be field welded. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 2. Steel surfaces to be greased. <br /> 14 <br /> I <br /> 15 3. The length of piles designated in the Plans not requiring painting. <br /> 16 <br /> 17 The minimum drying time between coats shall be as shown in the product data sheets, <br /> I 18 but not less than 12 hours. The Contractor shall determine whether the paint has cured <br /> 19 sufficiently for proper application of succeeding coats. <br /> 20 <br /> I <br /> 21 6-07.3(12)A1 Paint Systems <br /> 22 Paint systems for Structural Steel, which includes vehicle transfer spans and towers, <br /> 23 pedestrian overhead loading structures and towers, upland structural steel and other <br /> 24 elements as designated in the Special Provisions shall be as specified in Section 6- <br /> ' 25 <br /> 26 07.3(9)A. <br /> 27 Paint systems for Piling, Landing Aids and Life Ladders shall be as specified in the <br /> I <br /> 28 Special Provisions. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 6-07.3(12)A2 Paint Color <br /> I 31 Paint colors shall be as specified in the Special Provisions. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 6-07.3(12)A3 Coating Thickness <br /> 34 Coating thicknesses shall be as specified in the Special Provisions. <br /> I <br /> 35 <br /> 36 6-07.3(12)A4 Application of Field Coatings <br /> 37 An on-site supervisor shall be present for each work shift at the project site. <br /> I 38 <br /> 39 Upon completion of erection Work, all uncoated or damaged areas remaining, <br /> 40 including bolts, nuts, washers, splice plates, and field welds shall be prepared in <br /> I 41 accordance with SSPC-SP 1, Solvent Cleaning, followed by SSPC-SP 11, Power Tool <br /> 42 Cleaning to Bare Metal. Surface preparation shall be measured according to SSPC- <br /> 43 VIS 3. SSPC-SP 11 shall be performed for a minimum distance of 1 inch from the <br /> 44 uncoated or damaged area. In addition, intact shop-applied coating surrounding the <br /> I <br /> 45 area shall be abraded or sanded for a distance of 6 inches out from the properly <br /> 46 prepared clean/bare metal areas to provide adequate roughness for application of <br /> 47 field coatings. All sanding dust and contamination shall be removed prior to <br /> I <br /> 48 application of field coatings. <br /> 4° <br /> 50 Field applied paint for Structural Steel shall conform to Section 6-07.3(10)H, as <br /> I <br /> 51 applicable.
