It is anticipated that <br />the construction project will be substantially complete and open to public use by the end <br />of November, 2012. The department will list it in our recreation guide and on its capital <br />inventory list. Similar to all other active public gathering places managed by the <br />department, a name for the plaza is appropriate. <br />The proposed name for this newest public gathering place is "City Plaza". <br />General Rationale <br />The name "City Plaza" suggests to the general public that its location is not only in a city, <br />but also situated in the "core" or downtown area of Everett. It is sufficiently short to be <br />effective in the placement of its name on general informational/marketing materials. And <br />the proposed name is explanatory regarding what the open space is — a public gathering <br />place that is generally constructed of "hard" materials, such as concrete. No other City <br />facility has a name similar to or duplicative of "City Plaza". <br />Resolution No. 6537 <br />City council adopted resolution 6537 (a policy on public place names) on September 5, <br />2012. The policy requires that requests for naming a public place, including a park, be <br />submitted to the Mayor for a determination regarding the proposed name's consistency <br />with this policy. Below is an explanation regarding the proposed name and its <br />consistency with the policy: <br />1) Criterion A: consistent because it is in advance of the completion of the plaza's <br />construction; <br />2) Criteria B, C, D, E, F, G: not applicable; <br />3) Criterion H: consistent (see general rationale above); <br />4) Criterion I: not applicable. <br />CITY OF EVERETT • 802 E.
