SUPPLEMENTAL SURFACE EXPLGRATION AND
GEOTECHNICAL EiVGINEERING DESIGN STUDY
MALLWESTCENTER
EVERETT MALL WAY AND HOWARD AVENUE
EVERETT, WASHINGTON
..
1.0 SUP4WRY
The proposed project construction is feasible with respect to the subsurface
+ conditions encountered at the subject site. A brief summary of the project
geotechnical r.onsiderations is presented below:
'' Subsur•face conditions encountered in ne erplorations generally consisted
. of uncontrolled fill, up to 4 f2i in thickn.ss, overlying what appears to
be a relic topsoil stratum, very dense silty sands with some gravels and
stiff to very stiff clayey silts at depth.
` The existing fill soils will not be adequate for foundation support.
0
.
a Conventional shallow spread, continuous or exteded footings founded on
`J native soils or "structural fi71" ma.y be utilized for foundation support
with an allowable bearing pressue of 2500 psf (pounds per square foot)
and less than 1 inch of settlement.
Structural fioors utilizing grade beams and fuundations or crwl-space-
- type construction with a raised floor may be considered based on economic
conditions.
--- Rerouting of the drainage culvert underlying the building location will
have to be accomplished prior to construction.
- This surtmary is presented for introductory purposes and should be used only in
conjunction with the full text of this report. The project description, site
_ conditions and our detailed design recommendations are presented in the text of
this report. The exploration procedure and logs of the explorations are presented
in Appendix A.
