1
Phase III Scope
•
This supplemental agreement includes continuation of engineering services through the Bid
Ready Construction documents,Bidding and Construction Engineering Support for the
Broadway Bridge Project between Hewitt Avenue and California Street in Everett,Washington.
At the option of the City, the Consultant may provide Construction Management services for
some or all of the construction phase.
The requested supplement to advance the draft final Bid Ready Construction documents(i.e.,
PS&E)to final Bid Ready Construction documents are due to the following changes from the
original project scoping:
a. Changes resulting from advancing the design from the Staged Construction to Full
Closure Construction concept.
b. Existence of a 20-feet tall areaway on the southwest approach of the bridge. This areaway
requires a retaining wall to support the increased grade of the bridge and isolate the
project from the adjacent building.
c. Existence of consolidable fill soil layers,up to 30 feet deep, at both approaches to the
bridge.
d. Close proximity of the footings of the Volunteers of America Building at the NW
approach to the bridge(Building foundation is built around the west corner of the existing
bridge's north abutment foundation).A cylindrical pile wall with cut-off wall is required
to isolate the stresses caused by the bridge from the Building at this location.
e. Deep foundations required for the southeast and northeast approaches due to the
aforementioned consolidable fill layers.
f. Large shafts required for both north and south abutments due to the aforementioned
consolidable fill layers
g. Optimizing the design to incorporate tight working windows that are required for the
construction of the new bridge's interior bents.
h. Coordination with the City's Aesthetics committee on throw fence and creating
associated renderings.
i. Full Closure Detour Route and Traffic Control Plan design and coordination with City.
In the following, the activities associated with the critical tasks of this phase of the Project are
described in further detail: '
5
