McDonald's Corporation E-376
December 21, 1987 Page b
We suggest that the qround be slope 3 percent for a distance of at
least ten feet away irom the buildings except in areas that are to
be paved.
If wet season work is anticipated some form of cover should bE
placed over the subgrade. The cover could be in the form of ATB or
crusY.ad rock. As an alternative the site subgrade could be left
high. Just before pavin3 the site, the finish grading would be
completed and then paving ta}=e place as soon as possible after the
grading.
Pavement Areas
All parking and roadway areas may be supported oti native soils
provided those soils can be compacted to 95 per.cent density and are
statle at the time of constructicn. Structural fill and/or fabric
aay be needed to stabilize soft, wet or Ltnstable areas. In most
instances twelve (12) inches of granular fill will stabilize the
subgrade except for very soft areas where greater thicknesses may be
required. The upper twelve (12) inches of pavement subgrade should
be compacted to at least 95 percent of the maximum density. Below
this level a compactive effort of 90 percent would be adequate. The
pavement section for lightly loaded traffic and parking areas
should consist of three inches of Asphalt Concrete (AC) over four
inches of crushed roc?: base (CRB) or three inclies of ATB. This
pavement section is the minimum section specified by the McDonald's
Corporation. Heavier loaded areas would require thicker sections.
We will be pleased to assist you in developing appropriate pavement
sections or specific:,cions for heavy traffic zones, if needed.
Site Preoaration and General Earthwork
Following the e.xcavation, the ground surface where structural fill,
foundations, c,r slabs are to be placed should bA proofrolled.
Proofrolling aay accomplished with either a loaded dump truck or a
large self propelled compactor. All proofrolling shoulci be per-
formed under the observation of a representative of ECi. Soil in
any loose or soft areas should be removed and replaced wi.h struc-
tural fill to a depth that will provide a stable base baneath the
general structural fill.
Structural fill under. floor slabs and footings should be placed in
horiontal lifts and compacted to a minimum 95 perc2nt of thc
maximum dry density in accordance with ASTM Test Desiqnation D-1557-
70 (Modified Proctor) . The fill materials should be placed at or
near the optimum moisture content. Fill ur.der pavements and walks
should also be placed in horizontal lifts and compacted to 90
Earth Consultants. Inc.
