CITY OF EVERETT SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> Provide concrete mix with slump not exceeding 3-1/2 inches. , <br /> Add coloring agent for matching the color of newly constructed cement concrete <br /> sidewalks to the color of adjacent existing cement concrete sidewalks. Add to the <br /> concrete during mixing in an amount not to exceed 1-1/2 pounds per cubic yard of <br /> concrete. Do NOT use coloring agent in curb ramps. <br /> 8-14.3(1) Excavation <br /> Supplement 8-14.3(1) by adding the following: <br /> Obtain approval of the Engineer to provide, place and compact Gravel Borrow <br /> meeting the requirements of 9-03.14 of the Standard Specification if there is <br /> insufficient suitable native material on the Project to fill low areas for the sidewalk <br /> subgrade. <br /> 8-14.3(2) Forms <br /> Supplement 8-14.3(2) by adding the following: <br /> Before setting the forms, grade the subgrade to two inches below established grade <br /> to accommodate two inches of crushed surfacing top course. <br /> Install sidewalk drains prior to placing forms if the Plans calls for sidewalk drains or <br /> the Engineer directs installation of sidewalk drains. <br /> 8-14.3(3) Placing and Finishing Concrete <br /> Supplement 8-14.3(3) by adding the following: <br /> Form joints by first cutting a groove in the concrete with a tee bar of a depth equal <br /> to, but not greater than the joint filler material, and then work the premolded joint <br /> filler into the groove. Position premolded joint filler for through and contraction joints <br /> in true alignment at right angles to the line of the sidewalk and be normal to and <br /> flush with the surface. ' <br /> Edge joints using a 1/4 inch radius edger and tool the sidewalk edges using a 1/2- <br /> inch radius edger. <br /> Obtain Engineer's approval of placing and finishing tools. Perform the concrete <br /> sidewalk placing and finishing under the control of the Engineer. Provide finished <br /> appearance by using an edging tool lightly on the sidewalk edges after the brush <br /> finish. <br /> Provide standard locations for concrete sidewalk through joints in accordance with <br /> these Special Provisions, in addition to the Plans, at the following: <br /> a. At street margins produced and at 30-foot intervals. ' <br /> b. To separate concrete driveways, stairways, curb ramps and their landings <br /> from sidewalks. <br /> c. Around the vertical barrel of fire hydrants, around utility poles and large I <br /> diameter underground utility cover castings when located in the sidewalk <br /> area. <br /> (i) Provide 18-inch No. 4 rebar placed diagonally and at least 6-inchs off <br /> each corner of through joint noted in (c). <br /> d. Longitudinally between concrete walks, curbs, paved planting strips and <br /> solid masonry or concrete walls where they abut. <br /> e. To match as nearly as possible the through joints in the adjacent pavement <br /> and curb when sidewalk abuts curb. <br /> Construct transverse contraction joints with premolded material 3/8-inch by 1-1/2- <br /> inch <br /> wide and set at maximum 15-foot intervals, or as decided by the Engineer. <br /> Provide 3/8-inch thick premolded non-extruding joint material, cut equal to the full <br /> depth of the concrete, plus 1/2-inch transverse and longitudinal through joints as <br /> shown on Standard Plan No. 312. Install with top edge flush with the finished <br /> Watermain Replacement"U" Division 8—MISC CONSTRUCTION October 1, 2019 <br /> WO No.—UP3698 SP—198 <br />
