PUBLIC WORKS
October 30, 2017
Scott Schreffler
GGLO Design
1301 First Avenue, Suite 301
Seattle, WA 98101
sschrefflerPgglo.com
Owner: Cocoon House
Job Address: 3530 Colby Ave
Plan Check No: B1710-022
RE: Building Permit Review Letter
Dear Mr. Schreffler,
In response to the application for a building permit, the plans have been examined and you are
advised that revisions may be necessary before a permit can be issued. Please review and
respond to the comments below.
General
1. Sheet G-102 depicts allowable area conversations for two distinctly separate paths —
separated use and non-separated use. The building complies as a non-separated use
structure per Section 506.23 using the most restrictive allowable area (SM for an A-3
Occupancy). The allowable areas for the other occupancy types and reference to Section
506.2.4 should be removed from the plans (for clarity). Section 508.3
2. Exterior wall assemblies D01 and D03 are a-symmetrical. If they are required to be used
as an a-symmetrical fire-resistive assembly, mineral fiber insulation would be required
per the listing.
3. Please provide the test information for the STC ratings in the wall and ceiling
assemblies. Section 1207
4. A listing should be provided for one-hour shaft assembly C01/A-601. Section 703.2
5. Door 131 into the elevator machinery room should be shown as a minimum 60-minute
assembly. Section 3005.4
6. Per our reading, elevator lobby doors are not required per Section 3006.2, Exception 1.
7. The exhaust fans penetrating the fire-resistive ceilings of a fire-rated floor/ceiling
assembly should be shown with ceiling radiation dampers. Section 717.6.2
i/3
