2
Task 3.4 2-D Model Development and Calibration
WEST will develop a 2-D depth-averaged hydrodynamic and sediment transport model
to simulate sediment transport and deposition near Outfall 025. The extent of the 2-D
model domain will be determined in such a way that the 1-D HEC-RAS model provides
appropriate boundary conditions at the upstream and downstream ends of the 2-D model
domain.
We will use CCHE2D to perform the sediment transport modeling. CCHE2D is a
general model for 2-D simulation and analysis of river flows,non-uniform sediment.
transport, and morphologic processes. It is developed at the National Center for
Computational Hydroscience and Engineering of the University of Mississippi.
CCHE2D is a public domain software and has been used extensively in the nation.
The 2-D CCHE2D model will be calibrated using available existing data and/or newly
collected data identified in Task 1.
Task 3.5 Sediment Transport Simulation
WEST will run the combination of the 1-D HEC-RAS and 2-D CCHE2D models for the
two alternatives for a range of hydrologic conditions identified in this task.
Task 3.6 Model Results Analysis
We will use the sediment transport modeling results to determine sedimentation patterns
and magnitude for the range of hydrologic conditions. From these results,WEST will
determine frequency and volume of required maintenance dredging near Outfall 025 for
the range of flow conditions. WEST will also summarize the pros and cons of the two
alternatives.
Task 3.7 Documentation
We will prepare a draft report to document model development and calibration and
present sediment transport results.
Deliverables
WEST will deliver the following study product:
• Field data sampling plan
• Technical Memo to present development and calibration of the 2-D model
• Draft Report of hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling
• Final Report of hydrodynamic and sediment transport modeling
Cost Estimate
The total cost to complete these services is expected not to exceed$46,826. An itemized
cost estimate is included below. Work will be billed on a time and materials basis and
will not exceed this amount without written permission. Any additional services
requested outside the scope will have to be negotiated separately.
WEST scope and costs for Outfall 025 Hydrodynamic and Sediment Transport Modeling 5
10/15/2013
36
