Everett Fire Department Strategic Plan—2013 <br /> Appendix—Citizen Forum Feedback <br /> Written comments were encouraged of the citizen forum participants. The areas of feedback solicited <br /> were in three general areas; citizen expectations of their fire department, citizen concerns about their <br /> fire department, and strengths citizen's believe their fire department possessed. Each similar comment <br /> was categorized broadly, with the number of similar responses in parentheses. These three categories <br /> are listed below: <br /> Citizen Expectations <br /> • The Everett Fire Department must have a fast response time (5) ' <br /> • The Everett firefighters must be competent (6) <br /> • The Everett Fire Department must possess good facilities and reliable equipment(4) ' <br /> • The Everett Fire Department must be good fiscal stewards of taxpayer funds (2) <br /> • The Everett firefighters must exhibit honesty, integrity,and compassion (4) <br /> • The Everett Fire Department must provide all of the emergency services currently provided (8) <br /> Citizen Concerns <br /> • Staff is not aligned with functions(80% EMS, but Fire is all we hear about) (1) <br /> • The fire code must be used to address downtown hazards (1) ' <br /> • Lack of access to fire stations (locked up)—should be used as disaster shelter(1) <br /> • Lack of adequate funding/staffing(5) <br /> • Must be more exploration of regional services (2) <br /> • Lack of communication with the public about the challenges faced by EFD(1) <br /> • Labor/management conflict is distracting and disruptive (1) <br /> • Lack of diversity in the Everett Fire Department (5) <br /> Citizen Identified Strengths <br /> • The Everett Fire Department is compassionate and professional (6) ' <br /> • The Everett Fire Department is responsive (4) <br /> • The Everett Fire Department is efficient (1) <br /> • The Everett Fire Department provides great service to all emergencies (7) <br /> • The Everett Fire Department provides great disaster preparedness(1) <br /> Page 56 <br />
