15 <br /> ARTICLE 24 - HOURS <br /> The hours of duty shall be established according to the initiative ordinance of the City of Everett <br /> so that the average weekly hours of duty in any month shall not exceed 42 hours. The normal <br /> work shift for suppression personnel shall be twenty-four (24) hours. In no case, except on <br /> emergency, shall a firefighter be required to work in excess of 24 consecutive hours. The four <br /> (4) platoon system shall be exercised in carrying out this work schedule. <br /> Non-suppression members work shift shall be 0800 to 1700 hours, wherein one hour shall be <br /> for meals, provided, however, by mutual agreement between the Department and the employee, <br /> an employee may work a schedule other than that set forth above, such as during the holiday <br /> season or at times when the Department has special needs which necessitate deviation from <br /> the normal shift. Provided, however, that the continued deviation from the 0800 to 1700 hour <br /> shift after the initial mutual agreement shall not continue more than ten (10) shifts without the <br /> continued agreement of the employee. <br /> Except as provided above, any changes in the working schedule shall be subject to negotiation <br /> between the City and the Union according to the procedures outlined in Article 31 of this <br /> Agreement and Washington State law. <br /> As of January 1, 1990, the parties have implemented the concept of a 24 hour shift. Changes to <br /> contract language have been made to reflect this change. However, in the event any language <br /> changes have been overlooked or omitted, all other provisions of this contract and any <br /> amendments or addendums.thereto shall be construed to be read consistent with a 24 hour shift <br /> unless specifically stated otherwise. <br /> 35 17 <br /> r, <br />
