Our response appears in bold.
1. On Details 6/53.1 and 7/S3.1, it appears that the top of the handrail exceeds the maximum height of 38"
from the top of the stair tread per IBC 1014.2. If the smaller rail beneath the top rail is intended to be the
handrail, these handrails should be continuous per IBC 1014.4. Please revise geometry as required. As part of
this continuity requirement for handrails, clearances and projections per IBC 1014.7 and IBC 1014.8,
respectively should be reviewed for compliance should the handrail geometry change.
A handrail was added beside the existing intermediate rail. Refer to revised detail 6/S3.1.
2. On Detail 2/S2.1,the handrails appear to be missing their extensions per IBC 2015 1014.6 at the top and
bottom of the stairs. Please revise handrails as required.
The extensions have been added to the handrail at the top and bottom of the stair. Refer to revised detail
2/52.1.
3. On Detail 7/S3.1, it appears that the intermediate 0.75" diameter STD Pipe vertical posts that comprise the
guardrails exceed the 4" sphere threshold per NBC 1015.4. Please revise geometry as required.
The%"diameter pipe has an outer diameter of 1.05"and therefore the opening is 3.95".
4. On Detail 3/S3.1, it appears that the 4" max spacing would permit the passage of a 4"sphere per IBC
1011.5.5.3 Exception 1. Please revise as required.
The%"diameter pipe has an outer diameter of 1.05"and therefore the opening is 3.95".
250 4th Avenue South,Suite 200
Edmonds,WA 98020
ph.425.778.8500 I f.425.778.5536
www.cgengineering.com
