Sound Transit is responsible for the development of a "spine" mass transit system for <br />the Puget Sound - three county - region. The current transportation package will provide <br />fixed guideway (rail) to Lynnwood by 2023. While planning for extension of the rail <br />system is underway, there is no additional funding at this time to build the rail system <br />from Lynnwood to Everett. That will require approval by the Washington State <br />Legislature and voters before the system can be completed. The soonest that package <br />could be before the voters would be 2016. <br />Paul Roberts is a member of the Everett City Council. He is Chair of the Puget Sound <br />Clean Air Agency Board, Vice Chair of Sound Transit Board, and Vice President of the <br />Association of Washington Cities Board. His career covers over 40 years in both public <br />and private sectors. He served as Planning and Community Development Director for <br />the City of Everett, Public Works Director and Assistant City Manager for the City of <br />Marysville, private sector consultant with BERK, special advisor to Governor Booth <br />Gardner addressing economic and environmental analysis and permitting for the Navy <br />base at Everett Washington, and Chief of Staff to Congressman Norm Dicks.
