--9I
EVERETT CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET 4
PROJECT TITLE:
An Ordinance Relating to Briefing COUNCIL BILL# f L1 (c
Utility Fire Service Proposed Action Originating Dept. Public Works
Connection,Amending Consent Contact Person Mike Ward
Section 48 of Ordinance Action Phone Number 425-257-8827
1237-86 (EMC.14.16.480) First Reading FOR AGENDA OF 8-13-14
Second Reading
Third Reading Initialed by:
Public Hearing Department Head
Budget Advisory CAA C `'2
Council President ,7.7jg
Location Preceding Actions Attachments Department(s)Approval
Proposed Public Works,Legal,
Ordinance Admin
Amount Budgeted -0-
Expenditure Required -0-
Budget Remaining -0-
Additional Required -0-
DETAILED SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This is a housekeeping ordinance to bring The Everett Municipal Code relating to Utility Fire Service
Connection up to date and clearly define the City's ownership and responsibility. The current regulation was
adopted in 1986.
When the regulation was adopted, it did not address the primary piece of fire service; that is a backflow
device that protects our potable water from possibly contaminated water. The current regulation can be
interpreted to mean the City owns the complete fire service. It has never been administered that way by the
City or any other municipality.
The purpose of this proposed amendment is to eliminate any possible confusion, and clarify that the City is
not taking responsibility or ownership for the backflow device.
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt an Ordinance relating to Utility Fire Service Connection, amending
Section 48 of Ordinance 1237-86 (EMC 14.16.480).
15
