PROJECT SPECIFICS: The questions in this section are specific to the project and vicinity.
1. Name of watershed: Snohomish Watershed within WRIA 7
2. Name of nearest waterbody: The site drains into upper tributary of Wood Creek. A City's Type
NS (Category IV) stream is located within the westerly and northerly portion of the site. A
City's Type F (Category III) Stream is located within the northerly portion of the site.
3. What is the distance from this project to the nearest body of water?
Often a buffer between the project and a stream can reduce the chance of a negative impact to fish.
The nearest distances of the new switchyard security fence to the Type NS stream and to the
Type F stream, the upper tributary of Wood Creek are about 50 feet and 200 feet respectively.
Wood Creekis located on the east side of Interstate 5 which is at least 3,000 feet east of the
switching station fenced yard.
4. What is the current land use between the project and the potentially affected water body (parking
lots,farmland,etc)?
The area is zoned R1-I, Institutional. The area between the new switchyard security fence and
the streams will be partly landscaped and mostly left undisturbed.
5. Is the project above a:
• natural permanent barrier(waterfall)Yes ❑ No
• natural temporary barrier(beaver pond) Yes n Nom
• man-made barrier(culvert, dam) Yes I1 No ❑
• other(explain):
Project is located at the upper end of the last tributary of Wood Creek. The stream is a natural
intermittent or ephemeral during years of normal rainfall and the steam gradient is steep. No
salmon are present.
6. If yes, are there any resident salmonid populations above the blockage?
Yes ❑ No 1 Don't know❑
Not applicable.
7. What percent of the project will be impervious surface
(including pavement&roof area)?
The percentage of the existing site currently covered by impervious surfaces is approximately
5 %of the 5.6 acre yard area which includes equipment pads and a control enclosure within
the existing switchyard fence and concrete slabs/foundation north of the existing switchyard.
The existing control enclosure, equipment pads and the concrete/slabs will be removed as part
of this project expansion.
When the project construction is complete, the percentage of the 5.6 acre switchyard that will
have impervious surfaces will be approximately 2.7 %.
The switching station fenced yard will be surfaced with a with a 4" layer of pervious coarse
crushed rock surface with a void ratio of approximately 30%.
3
September 1999
