to native trees, shrubs, and ferns. Nonnative shrubs will be removed along the fenceline.
Bulrush will be retained where present in and along the channel.
Native vegetation will be planted within the approximately 5,660 square feet of retained buffer so
that overtime, it will function with increased vegetative diversity, structure, and stream bank/slope
stability. Native plantings will provide infiltration and filtration of overland flow and reduce use
on lawn chemicals near the stream. Overtime, planting shrubs and trees in this area would
improve stream habitat conditions through shading and reduction of nonnative plants (lawn
grasses, buttercup, and ornamentals). Habitat components for some species such as birds will be
improved. The small size of the planting area combined with the dense residential development in
the area limits improvement to habitat associated with the buffer enhancement planting. Planting
specifics are provided below in the Planting Plan.
H . f:1',-,17/;IP, .
'^ v'
y +z
' ,,,y '. . . ,-`10.:'V..-. Where materials were removed,the channel will be restored and
enhanced.
The large rock will not be replaced to line the channel walls. Some of the large rocks will be
used within the stream channel to provide a series of"cascade"feature designed to reduce
velocity and capture silt during high flows. Vegetative plantings will provide bank stabilization
and reduce siltation to the channel. Plant species are discussed in the Planting Plan below.
At the edge of the existing driveway, the retention walls are constructed with what appears to be
creosote treated lumber. On the property, the treated timbers will be replaced with natural
materials such as stone.
Fencing will be built along the south property line within buffer. The fencing will be truncated to
allow an approximately 20 feet opening for the stream channel.
4
