previously compacted mixture shall be cut back to produce a slightly beveled edge for the <br /> II <br /> 2 full thickness of the course. <br /> 3 <br /> I <br /> 4 5 A temporary wedge of HMA constructed on a 20H:1V shall be constructed where a <br /> transverse joint as a result of paving or planing is open to traffic. The HMA in the temporary <br /> 6 wedge shall be separated from the permanent HMA by strips of heavy wrapping paper or <br /> I 7 other methods approved by the Engineer. The wrapping paper shall be removed and the <br /> 8 joint trimmed to a slightly beveled edge for the full thickness of the course prior to <br /> 9 resumption of paving. <br /> I 10 <br /> 11 The material that is cut away shall be wasted and new mix shall be laid against the cut. <br /> 12 Rollers or tamping irons shall be used to seal the joint. <br /> I 13 <br /> 14 5-04.3(12)A2 Longitudinal Joints <br /> 15 The longitudinal joint in any one course shall be offset from the course immediately below by <br /> I <br /> 16 not more than 6 inches nor less than 2 inches. All longitudinal joints constructed in the <br /> 17 wearing course shall be located at a lane line or an edge line of the Traveled Way. A <br /> 18 notched wedge joint shall be constructed along all longitudinal joints in the wearing surface <br /> I 19 of new HMA unless otherwise approved by the Engineer. The notched wedge joint shall <br /> 20 have a vertical edge of not less than the maximum aggregate size or more than '/Z of the <br /> 21 compacted lift thickness and then taper down on a slope not steeper than 4H:1V. The <br /> I <br /> 22 sloped portion of the HMA notched wedge joint shall be uniformly compacted. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 5-04.3(12)B Bridge Paving Joint Seals <br /> I <br /> 25 <br /> 26 5-04.3(12)B1 HMA Sawcut and Seal <br /> 27 Prior to placing HMA on the bridge deck, establish sawcut alignment points at both ends of <br /> I28 the bridge paving joint seals to be placed at the bridge ends, and at interior joints within the <br /> 29 bridge deck when and where shown in the Plans. Establish the sawcut alignment points in a <br /> 30 manner that they remain functional for use in aligning the sawcut after placing the overlay. <br /> I31 <br /> 32 Submit a Type 1 Working Drawing consisting of the sealant manufacturer's application <br /> I 33 procedure. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Construct the bridge paving joint seal as specified ion the Plans and in accordance with the <br /> I 36 detail shown in the Standard Plans. Construct the sawcut in accordance with the detail <br /> 37 shown in the Standard Plan. Construct the sawcut in accordance with Section 5-05.3(8)B <br /> 38 and the manufacturer's application procedure. <br /> I 39 <br /> 40 <br /> 41 5-04.3(12)B2 Paved Panel Joint Seal <br /> I42 Construct the paved panel joint seal in accordance with the requirements specified in <br /> 43 section 5-04.3(12)B1 and the following requirement: <br /> I 44 <br /> 45 1.
