I <br /> 1 The Contractor may use up to 20 percent RAP by total weight of HMA with no additional <br /> 2 sampling or testing of the RAP. The RAP shall be sampled and tested at a frequency of one <br /> 3 sample for every 1,000 tons produced and not less than ten samples per project. The <br /> 4 asphalt content and gradation test data shall be reported to the Contracting Agency when <br /> 5 submitting the mix design for approval on the QPL. The Contractor shall include the RAP as <br /> 6 part of the mix design as defined in these Specifications. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The grade of asphalt binder shall be as required by the Contract. Blending of asphalt binder <br /> 9 from different sources is not permitted. <br /> I 10 <br /> 11 The Contractor may only use warm mix asphalt (WMA) processes in the production of HMA <br /> 12 with 20 percent or less RAP by total weight of HMA. The Contractor shall submit to the <br /> 13 Engineer for approval the process that is proposed and how it will be used in the <br /> 14 manufacture of HMA. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Production of aggregates shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-01. <br /> 17 Preparation of stockpile site, the stockpiling of aggregates, and the removal of aggregates <br /> 18 from stockpiles shall comply with the requirements of Section 3-02. <br /> I 19 <br /> 20 5-04.2(1) How to Get an HMA Mix Design on the QPL <br /> 21 If the contractor wishes to submit a mix design for inclusion in the Qualified Products List <br /> I <br /> 22 (QPL), please follow the WSDOT process outlined in Standard Specification 5-04.2(1). <br /> 23 <br /> 24 5-04.2(2) Mix Design —Obtaining Project Approval <br /> I 25 No paving shall begin prior to the approval of the mix design by the Engineer. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 Nonstatistical evaluation will be used for all HMA not designated as Commercial HMA in <br /> 1 28 the contract documents. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Commercial evaluation will be used for Commercial HMA and for other classes of HMA in <br /> I <br /> 31 the following applications: sidewalks, road approaches, ditches, slopes, paths, trails, gores, <br /> 32 prelevel, and pavement repair. Other nonstructural applications of HMA accepted by <br /> 33 commercial evaluation shall be as approved by the Project Engineer. Sampling and testing <br /> I 34 of HMA accepted by commercial evaluation will be at the option of the Project Engineer. The <br /> 35 Proposal quantity of HMA that is accepted by commercial evaluation will be excluded from <br /> 36 the quantities used in the determination of nonstatistical evaluation. <br /> I 37 <br /> 38 Nonstatistical Mix Design. Fifteen days prior to the first day of paving the contractor shall <br /> 39 provide one of the following mix design verification certifications for Contracting Agency <br /> 40 review; <br /> 41 <br /> 42 • The WSDOT Mix Design Evaluation Report from the current WSDOT QPL, or one of <br /> I <br /> 43 the mix design verification certifications listed below. <br /> •44 • The proposed HMA mix design on WSDOT Form 350-042 with the seal and <br /> 45 certification (stamp &signature) of a valid licensed Washington State Professional <br /> I 46 Engineer. <br /> 47 • The Mix Design Report for the proposed HMA mix design developed by a qualified <br /> 48 City or County laboratory that is within one year of the approval date.** <br /> I <br /> 49 <br /> I 2020 PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE OVERLAY PAGE 43 OF 79 SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> WORK ORDER 3727 FEBRUARY 20,2020 <br />
