I <br /> 1 1 or 2 fine aggregate per section 9-03.1(2). The components shall be thoroughly mixed and <br /> 2 then poured into the cracks and joints until full. The following day, any cracks or joints that111 <br /> 3 are not completely filled shall be topped off with additional sand slurry. After the sand slurry <br /> 4 is placed, the filler shall be struck off flush with the existing pavement surface and allowed to <br /> 5 cure. The HMA overlay shall not be placed until the slurry has fully cured. The requirements <br /> 6 of Section 1-06 will not apply to the portland cement and sand used in the sand slurry. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 In areas where HMA will be placed, use sand slurry to fill the cracks. I <br /> 9 <br /> 10 In areas where HMA will not be placed, fill the cracks as follows: <br /> 11 <br /> 12 1. Cracks % inch to 1 inch in width -fill with hot poured sealant. <br /> 13 2. Cracks greater than 1 inch in width —fill with sand slurry. I <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Hot Poured Sealant: For cracks that are to be filled with hot poured sealant, apply the <br /> 16 material in accordance with these requirements and the manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> 17 Furnish a Type 1 Working Drawing of the manufacturer's product information and <br /> 18 recommendations to the Engineer prior to the start of work, including the manufacturer's I <br /> 19 recommended heating time and temperatures, allowable storage time and temperatures <br /> 20 after initial heating, allowable reheating criteria, and application temperature range. Confine <br /> 21 hot poured sealant material within the crack. Clean any overflow of sealant from the <br /> 22 pavement surface. If, in the opinion of the Engineer, the Contractor's method of sealing the <br /> 23 cracks with hot poured sealant results in an excessive amount of material on the pavement <br /> 24 surface, stop and correct the operation to eliminate the excess material. <br /> 25 I <br /> 26 5-04.3(4)A2 Crack Sealing Areas Prior to Paving <br /> 27 In areas where HMA will be placed, use sand slurry to fill the cracks. 111 <br /> 28 <br /> 29 5-04.3(4)A3 Crack Sealing Areas Not to be Paved <br /> 30 In areas where HMA will not be placed, fill the cracks as follows: <br /> 31 <br /> 32 A. I <br /> 34 <br /> 35 5-04.3(4)B Vacant <br /> 36 <br /> 37 5-04.3(4)C Pavement Repair <br /> 38 The Contractor shall excavate pavement repair areas and shall backfill these with HMA in <br /> 39 accordance with the details shown in the Plans and as marked in the field. The Contractor <br /> 40 shall conduct the excavation operations in a manner that will protect the pavement that is to <br /> 41 remain. Pavement not designated to be removed that is damaged as a result of the <br /> 42 Contractor's operations shall be repaired by the Contractor to the satisfaction of the 111 <br /> 43 Engineer at no cost to the Contracting Agency. The Contractor shall excavate only within <br /> 44 one lane at a time unless approved otherwise by the Engineer.
