' E1ISTRUCTURAL
ENGINEERS
Engineers Northwest Inc.,P.S.
7. The plans do not provide a connection detail for the intersection of the diaphragm framing and
beams at locations without columns. A detail should be provided. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: Additional details have been added to address this.
8. Detail 3/S1.2 specifies a bolted shear connection using a 1" plate welded to the supporting beam.
The weld size should be specified. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: Correct detail and call out has been added. Please see typical beam to
column detail and beam to beam connection detail. (1,2,3,4 on 53.1)
9. Detail 3/S1.2 specifies a bolted shear connection using (2) 3/a A325N bolts. Detail 4/S1.2
references Detail 3/S1.2 for this connection, however, other details with bolted connections do not
reference Detail 3/S1.2. The details should be coordinated to specify the connection requirements.
See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: Correct detail and reference has been made.
10. Detail 8/S1.2 specifies a bolted connection between the guard posts and the structural framing with
(2) 5/8" bolts. The type and grade of the bolts should be specified. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: The detail has been revised to show flare bevel weld. Please see attached
connection calculation and the detail 6/S3.1.
Gravity System:
11. The structural design for the stairway appears to be incomplete. The following should be
addressed:
b. The stair stringers and supporting framing to the main structure appear to be incomplete,
particularly at Grid B/2, per the plans on Sheet S1.1. See IBC Section 1603.1.
Response: The stair stringer framings is now correctly shown on the plan.
c. The drawings do not appear to include connection details for the stairway framing, including
but not limited to the cantilever framing and connections of channel stringers to wide-flange
beams. Details shall be provided in the drawings. See IBC Section 107.2.1.
Response: The detail showing the connection from stringer to beam and beam to
column have been added.
d. Calculations substantiating the stairway design shall be submitted for review, including but
not limited to stairway framing, mezzanine framing supporting the stairway, and the
connections. See IBC Section 1604.1.
Response: Please see attached calculation. The calculation also includes the
connection of the stringer to the cantilevered beam with weld, and also the
connection of cantilevered beam to the column.
Lateral System:
12.The lateral analysis has been performed using a finite element model (FEM). The structural
calculations indicate the Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure (ELFP) of ASCE 7-10 Section 12.8. See
IBC 1613.1 and ASCE 7-10 Section 12.7.3.
