Abatement specifications should be prepared by a Hazardous Materials Consulting firm <br /> covering the regulated building materials that will be impacted by the renovations/demolition, <br /> and these specifications should be part of any contract documents prepared for this project. <br /> 5. A licensed asbestos abatement contractor must be utilized to remove any asbestos-containing <br /> materials that will be impacted by the planned renovation/demolition. <br /> 6. A Hazardous Materials Consulting Firm should provide project oversight and air monitoring <br /> during the removal of the asbestos-containing materials. <br /> Lead (Pb) <br /> Lead-containing paint was identified in the following paint samples collected from the subject structure; <br /> worker protection protocols are applicable for this project. <br /> • Blue paint on interior wooden walls &trims of room 3. <br /> • White paint interior wooden walls. <br /> • Beige paint on exterior wooden window/door components &trims. <br /> Lead-based paint was identified in the following paint samples collected from the subject structure. <br /> RRP Rules are applicable for this project. <br /> • Beige paint on interior wooden walls&trims. <br /> • Green paint on exterior wood sidings. <br /> The Federal Occupational Safety&Health Administration's(OSHA) interim lead safety standard(29 CFR <br /> 1926.59)for the construction industry became effective on June 3, 1993. Lead exposure in construction <br /> is regulated in Washington State by WAC 296-155-176. These regulations protect workers disturbing <br /> building surfaces with lead containing paints. Paint with "any detectable level" of lead is classified as a <br /> lead containing paint by federal and state regulations and the applicable worker safety provisions must <br /> be implemented. <br /> WORKER EXPOSURE <br /> WAC 296-155-176, Lead(Pb), applies to all construction work where an employee may be occupationally <br /> exposed to Lead (Pb). Construction work includes activities such as demolition or salvage, removal or <br /> encapsulation, and renovation of materials that contain Lead (Pb). When an employee may be <br /> occupational exposed to Lead (Pb), the employer must perform an exposure <br /> assessment according to WAC 296-155-176. <br /> The exposure assessment consists of personal air monitoring to determine representative Lead (Pb) <br /> exposure levels for the work being performed.
