Ceeeeete'tree"' <br /> Carlton Gipson said the purpose of this meeting vas to review with <br /> the council, alternative tansit funding plans lie reviewed the <br /> existing funding sources and the need for additional funding <br /> sources This included operational needs, capital needs and the <br /> pressure at the Federal level. <br /> He said funding options would be to increase fares, obtain more <br /> Feeley from UMTA or try for an additional 003 of 1%sales tax. The <br /> 003%is the funding option recommendation. <br /> At present the city Is receiving DO3 of 1% of sales tax but the <br /> state law allows.006 of 1% The legislature may in the near future <br /> be taking away transit's option for the additional 003. The <br /> agencies have been meeting and the discussion has been to go before <br /> the voters in the first part of 1989 to make sure something is done <br /> before the legislature takes the opportunity avay from the Transit <br /> 1 1 <br /> Systems Some of the funds would be set aside for future light rail <br /> and some would be used for present needs <br /> Community Transit has been working with he city trying to establish <br /> the needs Ln the city and the funding requirements. Some of the <br /> CT's 003 would be used to help the city needs for high transit <br /> Purposes <br /> ° <br /> 1.1 <br />
