Ceeeeete'tree"' Carlton Gipson said the purpose of this meeting vas to review with the council, alternative tansit funding plans lie reviewed the existing funding sources and the need for additional funding sources This included operational needs, capital needs and the pressure at the Federal level. He said funding options would be to increase fares, obtain more Feeley from UMTA or try for an additional 003 of 1%sales tax. The 003%is the funding option recommendation. At present the city Is receiving DO3 of 1% of sales tax but the state law allows.006 of 1% The legislature may in the near future be taking away transit's option for the additional 003. The agencies have been meeting and the discussion has been to go before the voters in the first part of 1989 to make sure something is done before the legislature takes the opportunity avay from the Transit 1 1 Systems Some of the funds would be set aside for future light rail and some would be used for present needs Community Transit has been working with he city trying to establish the needs Ln the city and the funding requirements. Some of the CT's 003 would be used to help the city needs for high transit Purposes ° 1.1
