Single
family nomes were too costly to construct. She felt if Single
family homes were needed this would be an excellent place to build
them. She also objected to the project because of the increased
traffic it would cause.
Simone Sutton of 5027 Dover St.complained that the project did not
come under the new zoning code. She said CARE spent many hours
working on the new code. If the developer used the new code, there
would only be 800 units on the property because of the
environmentally sensitive areas, that 28 ft. would be the maximum
height, that the, size and the bulk of their buildings would be
reduced. They are exempt from using the new code. The developers
would not negotiate but wosad only do what the city requires.
I
Carl Varner of 51,3 Dover said that this area had the highest income
and the post expecsive homes, with less turn-over except the north
end of Everett. He said he was not opposed to apartments but he was
against apartments being constructed on envisonmentally sensitive
property. He said the single family homes will be less than rare
the dwelling units which are for the most part 5000 sq ft. lots.
The exemption of this property from the new zoning code was added to
the agreement after the meeting.
Councilman Gipson said there had been some comments about the
Planning staff and he wanted it known that he had always been very
happy with their work.
Douncilmember Overstreet asked about the minutes of the December
26th Planning Commission meeting and Mary Cunningham said at the
October 17th meeting they decided what they wanted to recommend to
the council and it was different than the report the staff had
prepared for them and the contract that had been prepared so the
V' V staff went back and rewrote the contract based on what the staff
thought their decision was. At the December 26th meeting, they made
some changes end notices were prepared and mailed as soon as a date
for the meeting was established.
Den Bogey of 4610 Baker Drive said if this property had been made
single family homes, there would be 1/3 less traffic and 1/3 less
impact to the schools. He thought the city should stand by the
former zone.
'COnZintert=g71-1L'untisl°8;0t=°:atlann=ry g:rfgrt to
Roll was called with all councilmen voting Yes.
Motion carried.
ss5 The meeting then recessed et 11:56 p.m.
ha
