January 24,2001 PUBLIC HEARING—RESOLUTION/CALIFORNIA STREET OVERCROSSING President Simpson open 1 a public hearing regarding a proposed resolution providing for the closure of Hewitt Avenue,California Sneer and partial closure of Bond Street where these suene intersect the BNSF Bayside Line in rrvyr0mion With the California Street Overcroaaingproject. President Simpson invited public rommem. Ed Paskovskis,Deputy Director,Pan of Everett,thanked the cauacihcembers for their individual ideas and concepts regarding the California Street Overcrossiog. He stated that the purpose of the project H to develop a safe means to move people to and from the waterfront. Dave Davis,City Eagioeer,gave a brief prweotation regarding changes that have been made to the design of the California Street Overmossmg project in spouse to concerns raised by councilmembers and citizens at the laouary 17, 2001 City Council meeting. The intersection of California Street and West Marine View Drive has been altered to encourage truck traffic to go north oa Went Marine View Drive rather than through the Central Buaioes Distriel. There will be signage directing northbound trucks to I-5 via West Marine View Drive and southbound mucks onto West Marine View Drive to Pacific Avers e. In respect to concerns regarding the closure of Bond Street where it intersects the Bayside Line,the Port of Everett and Burlington Northern have concurred with a pedestrian only crossing at Gat location. Bh1 Belahaw,2111 Rucker,thanked the City Council re behalf of the Bayside and Pon Gardner Neighborhoods for their comms and support regarding the pedestrian crossing at Bond Surat. David Mascarenas,517 Laurel Drive,spoke against the proposed resolution and the closures of Hewitt Avenue and California Street where they intersect the Bayside Line. 34
