June 3,2009 <br /> i he regular meeting of the Everett City Council was called to order at 6:30 <br /> p.m.,June 3,2009 In the City Council Chambers of the Everett City Hall, <br /> President Hatloe presiding. Upon roll call it was found that Mayor <br /> Stephenson:Council Members Roberts,Olson,Hatloe,Gipson,Nielsen, <br /> Stonecipher and Afiholter were present. <br /> Council Member Stonecipher led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> The minutes ofc the May 27,2009 CityCouncil meeting were approved as <br /> printed.Council Member Gipson abstained from the vote. <br /> MAYOR <br /> UPDATE—PROSTITUTION INTERVENTION <br /> Laura Van Slyck,Legal,gave an update regarding the recently formed <br /> Prostitution Prevention Network of Snohomish County.The network is a <br /> collaborative initiative that endeavors to assist young people who are <br /> victimized by sex trade activities by providing direct linkage to a <br /> comprehensive resource network with existing services. At this point <br /> there is a small core group of which the Everett Police Department <br /> participates In the network but is nota facilitator of the network.Cocoon <br /> House and Providence have agreed to be co-facilitators of the group. <br /> This is not just a local effort.It is happening across the country.Laura <br /> indicated that Deputy Chief Atwood and she have been happy to <br /> represent the mayor end coy council in these efforts.It is an enlightened <br /> approach to the problem. <br /> Council Member Nielsen questioned the status of the prostitution activity <br /> in the Broadway area. <br /> Police Chief Scharf responded that during the summer months this type of <br /> activity does increase, Sting operations will continue in the Broadway <br /> area as well as the Evergreen Way area. _ <br /> 143 <br />
