January 20,2010 <br /> RESOLUTION—EMS LEVY <br /> Agenda Item No.S is to adopt a resolution encouraging the city of Everett <br /> to seek approval from the qualified electors of Everett,at an April 27, <br /> 2010,special election,of a levy lid lift to allow the city to continue <br /> providing essential Emergency Medical Services. <br /> Fire Chief Murray Gordon presented Information on the history of the EMS <br /> lavy lid lift,the effect Initiative 747 which was passed in 2001 has had on <br /> the levy rate,the increase in demands for service,and the average cost of <br /> the requested levy rate to homeowners. <br /> Council Members asked several questions regarding the information <br /> presented. <br /> Moved by Council Member Stonecipher,seconded by Council <br /> Member Neilsen to table this matter until the council has a chance to <br /> review the numbers and get an updated graph. <br /> Council Member Gipson asked whether this is a time sensitive issue. <br /> Debra Bryant,CAA stated that this action would allow the outside <br /> volunteer committee to get started on their work to get the levy on the <br /> ballot. <br /> Council Member Nielsen asked City Attorney Iles to confirm his <br /> understanding that tonight's action simply lays the ground work but that en <br /> ordinance will follow to bring into effect whet we are doing. <br /> City Attomey Iles stated that yes the action tonight is a statement of intent <br /> and the formal action will bean ordinance later In the process. <br /> Council Member Nielsen withdrew his second to table the action based on <br /> City Attorney Iles'response.Council Member Stonecipher withdrew her <br /> motion to table. <br /> 16. <br />
