• <br /> October 7, 2020 <br /> Nicole thanked Simone Tarver, Commission Chair, and Tony Fairfax for their work <br /> on the project over the past year. She stated the Commission is in final stages of <br /> publishing the map that was voted on by the Commission and receiving final <br /> community feedback. <br /> Simone Tarver provided an overview of the process and work that has been <br /> completed since December when an update was provided to the Council. <br /> Tony Fairfax presented information about Districting/Redistricting and the <br /> purpose for drawing/redrawing boundary lines, and he reviewed the Traditional <br /> Redistricting Criteria guidelines that were followed in district development. He <br /> also reviewed the final draft plans and the generation of the Draft Plan A-9 map, <br /> which was voted on by the Commission. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the following: <br /> • The redistricting process that will occur after the next census, i.e., timing, <br /> • <br /> public process, appointment of the body that completes the work <br /> • Why the determination was made that voting precincts could be divided — <br /> concern about the principle as both the Everett Port Commissioner district <br /> boundaries and Mukilteo School District director district boundaries split <br /> precincts within the city of Everett drawing some slightly more logical lines <br /> • Valley View split that keeps it from being part of a district that is more <br /> similar than District 2 and creates a larger split of Pinehurst than was <br /> necessary <br /> • Details on the breakdown of the final vote on the A-9 map, and relevant <br /> points made by dissenters <br /> • The importance of keeping Delta Neighborhood with Northwest <br /> Neighborhood <br /> • The amount of movement that can occur with redistricting after the census <br /> Council members thanked the Commission for the substantial amount of work <br /> completed required to complete this project. <br /> Council Member Roberts expressed concern about the size of the October 21st <br /> agenda and the amount of time needed for council members to review the <br /> r <br /> 308 <br />
