Please see summary of our responses to the structural comments indicated below:
Note: All revised drawings should be marked with clouds and delta symbol 5 for "Addenda#5",dated 05/04/2018.
Comment#1: It appears that the there is a below grade parking garage being constructed approximately
15'-0"below grade. On structural details, it appears that the shoring(soil nail wall)is being
designed by another engineer. Please provide a shoring design drawings and calculations to
be submitted for review. Response:APD to provide information requested. WK7 of f ,
Comment#2: From the response to the comment, the Engineer of Record determined concrete podium
1-1
Ga(t structure to have an extreme torsion horizontal irregularity. Per ASCE 7-10 Sec 12.3.4.2, the
redundancy factor of p=1.3 is required to be applied to earthquake design forces for the
design of lateral force resisting elements. Please revise forces and verify with supporting
design calculations that the elements can withstand the increased demands.
Response:
poi o c ..kon9 In response to your question regarding the use f p=1.0 r the concrete podium,it is
tvp
-___. our professional opinion, based on conversations in other structural engineers
1-nbe regarding this issue,it is common to ignore torsional irregularity checks for low rise
+Kter,e, anti Wine.buildings when story drifts are very small,i.e.,design story drifts,(using Cd),are less
than 10%of the code drift limit, which our building complies with.I don't think this Ise.,"
published anywhere but as we understand this exception has been allowed.
Therefore,it is Lochsa Engineering's opinion that we do not need to design the podium
for p=1.3,and as a result we have not revised the drawings or calculations to indicate
the use of p=1.3. See added sheets B4-B5 for additional information.
a 't7e".
