RFP #2020-073 • CITY OF EVERETT PARKS, RECREATION & OPEN SPACE PLAN
C. Describe your communication method(s) with
each of the different stakeholder groups.
We will listen to, involve, and collaborate with a broad range of community members in
Everett as identified in our Project Approach, Task 1. We will:
°
°
Engage Everett boards and commissions members and trusted community leaders to
network with communities that may not otherwise participate in parks planning,
Host discussion groups with stakeholders having particular recreation or partnership
interests.
Employ surveys and polls for the broader community.
BERK has a variety of methods in our engagement toolbox for broad and diverse community
engagement. Below are some project examples.
Port Townsend PROS Plan 2020— All Ages Engagement. BERK developed an inclusive
engagement plan, project branding and materials, and on online survey. We facilitated
engagement events with children, teens, and adults, both in -person and online. We
leveraged the Parks Board who tabled at supermarkets and farmers markets. We
engaged parents and students at a homecoming football game, and facilitated fun
classroom activities with the middle school. Extended open houses on a weekend, evening
interactive workshops, and presentations at legislative bodies were also part of the public
input opportunities. The methods employed resulted in large participation by survey (over
900), outdoor tabling (over 275), and meetings (over 160), which represents a relatively
large share of a community numbering 9,000.
Burlington PROS Plan 2020. BERK led a PROS Plan for Burlington, its first ever. Burlington
is a community that serves a much wider population than its city cis it is a hub in an
agricultural valley. Burlington also has 25% Latinx population. To engage all members of
the community, BERK developed a logo and look of materials in Spanish and English, and
developed materials that attracted participation by all including postcards for in -person
tabling and recreation events, cis well as online surveys The online survey attracted English
participants, postcards with similar questions attracted both English
and Spanish participants. To ensure appropriate cultural
translations, materials were reviewed by trusted leaders and
liaisons in the community, and events held at Schools, Recreation
Centers, and City Hall.
Port Townsend PROS Plan Youth
—Middle School Class Exercises
and Hiah School Homecomina
Hagamos de Burlington
FELIZ•SANO•EN FORMA
Plan de Parques y Recreation de Burlington 2020
i PROPOSAL • SUBMITTED OCTOBER 27, 2020
34
