KP Roof Repairs and Roof Improvements Project Section 07620
Community Transit, ITB#2019-028 Sheet Metal Flashing
PART 3 FABRICATION/INSTALLATION
3.01 GENERAL
A. Examine the substrate and the conditions under which the work is to be performed, and do not
proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Surfaces to receive sheet metal
flashing, sealant, and/or reinforced fluid applied flashing are to be clean, even, smooth, dry,
and free from defects and projections that might adversely affect the application. Verify slope
prior to installation. Remove all mechanical units as required for access to curbs. Reinstall as
required.
B. Work shall be accurately formed to sizes, shapes, and dimensions indicated with all angles
and lines in true alignment. All work shall be straight, sharp, and erected plumb and level in
proper plane without bulges or waves.
C. Typical sheet metal laps shall be a minimum 4 inches and sealed with two continuous beads
of approved sealant.
D. Lightly abrade all prefinished sheet metal surfaces and wipe clean with mineral spirits at all
areas to receive new reinforced fluid applied flashing.
E. Provide mechanical sheet metal closure caps, fully sealed, at typical flashing ends.
F. When no detail direction is provided in the contract documents for an existing roofing related
condition, the contactor shall bring such transitions to the attention of the owner and
consultant. Where no detail is provided, the pre-existing condition shall be matched.
G. Cooperate with other trades in installation of work. Deliver items to be installed by others in
time to avoid delay of project.
H. Make proper allowances for expansion and contraction of materials in all work.
I. Provide required separations between non-compatible products such as single ply membrane
and any asphalt-based product(self adhering membrane). Do not allow direct contact of non-
compatible products.
J. Fabricate new coping with standing seam joints and corners (unless otherwise depicted in the
drawings). Outside face of coping to be held in place with continuous clip. Inside face
dimension to be three (3) inches minimum. Hem edges. Fasten inside face with gasketed cap
screws spaced at two (2) feet on center. Top fastening or fastening through laps is not
permitted. Existing coping metal is not to be reused.
K. Fabricate and size new through-wall overflow scuppers so as to match the drainage capacity
of the adjacent primary drainage.
END OF SECTION
Construction Documents
07620-3
