We <br /> are adding a delayed egress system at existing Door-A#ES100C1. This door provides <br /> egress for the west side of Waiting Area-S100W2 to Stair 100S1. The distance from <br /> Door-A to the Stairs is 48'-0". There is also an intermediate Door-B between Door-A <br /> and the Stair. <br /> - Existing Door-A is operated by a card reader and will have a panic device and exit <br /> sign on the waiting area side. The other side of the Door-A has a lever handle and <br /> does not lock. <br /> - Existing Door-B has panic hardware on one side and a lever handle on the other <br /> side. This door does not lock. <br /> - Existing Door-C (at the Stair) has panic hardware. <br /> - See Drawing G2.01 for doors layout. <br /> Code Background: <br /> Per the IBC Section 1020.4, Exception-2: In Type-B with an automatic sprinkler system <br /> the length of the dead-end corridor shall not exceed 50-feet. <br /> Since the corridor between Door-A and the Stairs is 48'-0",this door layout is allowed. <br /> The Kaiser Clinic is Type-B and is fully sprinklered throughout. <br /> The delayed egress door is allowed under both: <br /> 1. IBC 1010.1.9.7 <br /> 2. NFPA 101 "life safety code"7.2.1.6.1 <br /> The IBC states: Delayed egress locking systems shall be permitted to be installed on <br /> doors serving any other occupancy except Group A, E and H in buildings equipped <br /> throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 or <br /> an approved automatic smoke or heat detection system in accordance with Section <br /> 907.
