•
SUBSURFACE EXPLORATION AND GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING REPORT
PROPOSED PARKING GARAGE AND MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING
EVERETT GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVERETT, WASHINGTON
1.0 SUMMARY
The proposed project construction is feasible with respect to the subsurface
conditions encountered at the subject site. A brief summary of the project
geotechnical considerations is presented below:
Our subsurface explorations generally encountered very dense, glacially
consolidated gravelly, silty sand. The very dense soil was overlain by up
to 9 feet of loose fill, an old topsoil zone, and loose to medium dense
native soils. Wet soils, and possible perched ground water conditions,
were encountered within isolated zones in the fill and the native soils.
0 Figure 1 of this report, the Site and Exploration Plan, shows the locations
of borings accomplished for this study and previous studies. The elevation
of the top of very dense native soil, recommended for shallow foundation
support, is noted at each boring location on Figure 1. The recommended
bearing elevation appears to vary from approximately elevation 205 to
217 feet through the area of the two projects.
0 A maximum allowable soil bearing pressure of up to 12,000 psf may be
utilized for design of footings founded on very dense, native soils,
provided the footings are a minimum width of 3 feet. Footings less than
3 feet in width should be designed for a maximum allowable soil bearing
pressure of 8000 psf. Settlements are estimated to be less than 1 inch,
with less than 3/4 inches of differential settlement.
This summary is presented for introductory purposes only and should be used in
conjunction with the full text of this report.
2.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project site is located on the campus of Everett General Hospital, between 13th
1 and 14th Streets in Everett, Washington. Rockefeller Avenue forms the east boundary
of the project site. Figure 1 of this report shows the proposed locations of the
parking garage and medical office building.
